(Untapable) – winning the GI Kentucky Oaks earlier this year leads a very deep field of 3yo fillies into Saturday’s GI Cotillion Stakes at Parx Racing
A trio of multiple GI winners in Sweet Reason , Untapable and Stopchargingmaria may be part of the best 3yo filly race of 2014 in a very deep 9 horse field for Parx’s other million dollar race this Saturday in the $1,000,000, GI Cotillion Stakes for 3yo fillies, at 1 1/16 mile over the Parx main!
Untapable , at 7/5, is the GI Kentucky Oaks winner this year has also won the GI Mother Goose earlier this season. She tried the boys in the GI Haskell but was not up to the task finishing 5th, 9 lengths off the front running Bayern that day! She’ll stalk an early pace then pounce big time in the lane most times. Stalker/Pouncer type but is she still in her early season form?
Stopchargingmaria , at 7/2, was a last out winner of the GI Alabama Stakes up at Saratoga this summer and also won the GI CCA Oaks also on Saratoga’s opening weekend this year. Cuts back to the 1 1/16 mile which will only help her cause!. She never far off the early pace when she is ready to strike. Stalker/ closer type!
Sweet Reason , at 4/1, winner of the GI Acorn and GI Test Stakes along with the GI Spinway in 2013, but all those races were at a mile or less as she seems to have trouble finding the winner’s circle at 2-turns! Deep Closer type so don’t look for her early.
Jojo Warrior , at 6/1, out of the Baffert barn, is a 2-time, west coast graded winner in her last 2 starts as those wins were wire to wire scores. Early speed here!
Joint Return , at 8/1, was a 3/4 length 2nd in that same GI Alabama Stakes last time out as she was grinding up on Stopchargingmaria, at the end! She was also 2nd, 2 back, in the GII Del Oaks to Fortunes Pearl. She’s any other closer type here so don’t look for her to be in the early vanguard here on Saturday!
Cassatt, at 12/1, winner of the GIII Monmouth Oaks last time in a wire to wire victory there and has won 3 straight now. A rising star here at a very good price as she could be real trouble in here with probably the freshest legs (so important this time of year) in this group! She might be more early front-running speed here on Saturday!
House Rules , at 20/1, has several graded starts on her resume including a pair of 2nd’s in the GII Davona Dale and G/P Oaks earlier this year, but has been off the board in the GI Mother Goose and GI Acorn Stakes at Belmont this spring. She did have a nice $85k 1x Aoc win up at Saratoga last out winning by 6 1/2 length at 1 1/8 mile! She tends to stalk an early pace most time!
Little Alexis , at 20/1, was an ok 3rd in that same GI Test Stakes at Saratoga last out by just a length. She was held back early for the first time in her short 3-race career that day showing she can close late as well as go early! She’s a little short on experience compared to some in here, but 20/1 could add spice to the back-end of a super ticket!
Vero Amore , at 20/1, might be best remembered for her stretch duel with Stopchargingmaria, in this year’s GII Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico where she only surrendered that stretch lead in the very last stride or two, losing by a short neck! She’s not raced well in her last 3 stakes tries and needs to find that early season form again to be viable! She’s been backing up in those past 3 outs so we’ll not be using this one at all here!
