GIII Derby Trial Stakes draws 11 and goes under the lights this Saturday

All Derby Trail roads lead to Churchill Downs on May 5th this year!

Although the 2012 GIII Derby Trial Stakes is the final graded stakes of the 2012 Derby Trail calendar, you wouldn’t know it by the field of 11 that was drawn as not a single contender is within shouting distance of a derby gate!

Free Past Performances,

There are some runner’s here with big-time 3yo graded stakes experience like, Paynter , with a 4th in the Santa Anita Derby, Stealcase, 6th in the GIII Gotham and 5th in the GIII Vinery Spiral Stakes, Quick Wit, with GII Hutcheson and Swale runs, Hierro, with a distance finish in the GIII Sham Stakes and Tarpy’s Goal, who’s no stranger to the Graded Stakes scene either.

Coming back into the 3yo Graded Stakes scene are a pair that generated a lot of buzz as 2yo’s in Seve and Motor City!

So here’s the line-up for this year’s Derby Trail finale in the $200,000, GIII Derby Trail Stakes, going a 1-turn mile on the Churchill main and “Under the Lights” at 9:39 pm edt!

By Posts, Horses, M/L Odds,

So in a time now gone by, the Derby Trial Stakes was just that “a trial” that would show-off the finest 3yo talent in the land in what was the premiere prep race for Kentucky Derby every year! Oh well, at least this one’s got the novelty of being run “under the lights” for the “Derby Nation” faithful!
