The 2012, $1,000,000, GI Haskell Invitational Stakes draw for Post Positions was just held with a field of just “6″ 3yo’s coming out for this year’s 45th edition here at Monmouth Park this Sunday, July 29th!

Headlining this year’s big GI marquee event at the “Shore’s Greatest Stretch” is Bob Baffert’s, Paynter ,who gets the favorite’s spot at 3/2. Paynter‘s last outing was a close 2nd in this year’s Belmont Stakes to the now retired Union Rags!

Todd Pletcher’s Gemologist, ( a son of Tiznow) who was undefeated until an injury forced a back of the pack finish in this year’s Kentucky Derby, returns to action as the 3/1 2nd choice here on Sunday!

At 3/1 is Dullahan, a Dale Romans charge ( a half brother to 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird) is the 2012 GI Toyota Bluegrass winner, finished a closing 3rd in the Kentucky Derby but then finished well back, five weeks later, in the Belmont Stakes in his last outing!

At 7/2 is Nonios, (out the Pleasant Colony and Touch Gold lines) is a Jerry Hollendorfertrainee and winner of the GIII Affirmed Stakes, with a good 2nd to Blueskiesandrainbows last out in the GII Swap Stakes, both however were over the poly at Hollywood Park!

Filling out this compact 2012 Haskell field are, Stealcase, a Mark Casse pupil, out of Lawyer Ron who’s last out was a 2nd in the GIII Matt Wynn last month at Churchill is 8/1 on the M/L.

Handsome Mike ,(out of Scat Daddy and a Smart Strike mare) at 15/1 who is out of the same Doug O’Neil/ Mario Gutierrez / J. Paul Reddam connections as this year’s Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner I’ll Have Another! This will be his 6th straight appearance in a Graded Stakes contest but with only luke-warm success, thus far!
