Close Hatches and Princess of Sylmar to tie up again in GI Personal Ensign Stakes – Post Positions, Picks, M/L Odds, Free Past Performances

CloseHatches - taking her second straight GI title in today's GI Cotillion Stakes at Parx today

(Close Hatches) – seeks another GI title in Friday’s GI Personal Ensign Stakes at Saratoga!

Saratoga, has just a “jim dandy” of an older f/m 2-turn, GI tussle in store this Friday in the $500,000, GI Personal Ensign Stakes, for 3yo and up Fillies and Mares, traveling 1 1/8 mile over the Saratoga main track this Friday afternoon!

Free Past Performances,

We got a rerun of the top 3 finishers from the GI Ogden Philips at Belmont last June in Close Hatches, Princess of Sylmar, and Antipathy, for this power-packed field of “7”!

Close Hatches , at 8/5, is a multiple GI winner, winner of 6 of her last 7 graded races, winner last out in that GI Ogden Philips by just a head over Princess of Sylmar, . She’s been running up front early of late to the greatest of successes. Look for her to go early!

Princess of Sylmar, at 9/5, 2nd by that head to Close Hatches, in that same GI Ogden Philips and was closing, but ran out of real estate that day 2 back. She finished 2nd again last out in the GI Delcap as her late closing form could not catch the front running Belle Gallantey, that day finishing 2 3/4 lengths off that winner. Closer type but seems to have a hard time getting past hard-hitting front-running types.

Antipathy, at 5/1, who was 3rd in that GI Ogden Philips then came back to win the GIII Shuvee Hcp here at Saratoga last time out by a length in a nice stalking and pouncing trip. This one loves it up front early too!

Belle Gallantey, at 8/1, was the wire to wire winner of that GI Delcap last time where she gave no quarter to the heavy favorite Princess of Sylmar, that day winning by 2 3/4 lengths, in a crisp 2:01 dead flat for that 1 1/4 course. More early speed here too!

Majestic River, at 15/1, who is undefeated at Monmouth Park this season with 3 consecutive wins including the GII Molly Pitcher Stakes last out, steps up into big time GI company here on Friday but she has earned this shot. This one likes to stalk an early pace most times then pounce in the stretch!

Fiftyshadesofhay, at 12/1, winner of the GII Ruffian Stakes at Belmont back on May 11th but since has come 3rd in the GII Flr de lis at Churchill and 4th last time in the GI Clement l. Hirsch over the Del Mar poly in her last 2 starts. Although a top graded runner she’s not made up any ground on the front-runners in her past 2 starts. Bob Baffert trained with Johny V. up on her this time. Seems to stalk then hang lately!

Stanwyck, at 15/1, since winning the GIII Turnbackalarm Stakes at Belmont last fall has been running in some top company ever since and at least seems to find a home on the board in all her last 5 stakes and graded stakes efforts. Closer type here and could be a good super filler here at a big price!

So, lots of early speed here and like the GI Haskell Stakes this year, the winner of this early speed duel should be the ultimate winner here, but alas this is Saratoga after all where favorites tend to falter!

2014 travers logo_1

(2014 GI Travers Stakes) – for 3yo’s, at 1 1/4 mile with a new purse of $1.250,000 is this Saturday at Saratoga Racecourse

Free Past Performances

GI Belmont Stakes winner Tonalist returns to Saratoga off a 2nd best finish in the GII Jim Dandy last time to test the 1 1/4 mile waters in the 145th renewal of the GI Travers Stakes where he will renew his 3yo rivalry with GII Jim Dandy winner Wicked Strong, who also won the GI Wood Memorial earlier this year, then dead-heated with Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome for 4th in the Belmont.

Bob Baffert’s, Bayern, is coming into the Travers off consecutive graded victories in the GI Haskell Invitational and GII Woody Stephens winning both races handily, while  top 3yo turfer in Mr Speaker, who won the GI Belmont Derby Invitational on the Belmont sod at this Travers’ 1 1/4 – mile distance in his last start.

Canadian classic winner Coltimus Prime will be making only his third start in the U.S. after taking down the second leg of Canadian Triple Crown in the $500k Prince of Wales Stakes back on Tuesday, July 29 at Fort Erie last time out.

Also eyeing a run in the 145th edition of the GI Travers Stakes are GIII Dwyer winner Kid Cruz, third in the Jim Dandy.

V.E. Day, Charge Now and Viva Majorca, first, second and fourth, respective finishers in the most recent running of the1 1/8-mile Curlin Stakes here at Saratoga on July 25th.

Kentucky Derby runner-up Commanding Curve and Ulanbator, who was second in the GIII Matt Winn at Churchill and third in the GIII Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park.

Twilight Eclipse and Main Sequence to rematch in GI Sword Dancer Invitational Hcp” – Post Positions, Picks, M/L Odds, Free Past Performances

Twilight Eclipse - winning the long distance GII Pan American Stakes turfer at Gulfstream Park today!

(Twilight Eclipse) – winning at Gulfstream Park this past winter!

Gulfstream Park’s 1 3/8 mile turf record holder Twilight Eclipse , will lead a top-flight group of 7 older turfers into Sunday’s $500,000, GI Sword Dancer Invitational Hcp, for 3yo and up turfers, at 1 1/2 mile around the Saratoga inner turf track!

Free Past Performances,

Free PP’s for all Saratoga Sunday Races – August 17th

Twilight Eclipse, is a multi – graded winner and currently holds the record at 1 3/8’s mile over the Gulfstream turf this past winter came a very tight 2nd in the GI United Nations Stakes at Monmouth last time out missing by a neck. Loves this distance and was 2nd here last year. Breaks from the outside post here so all the early action will be to his inside. Closer type here.

Main Sequence, was the up in time winner of that same GI United Nations Stakes at Monmouth last time in his first ever US start. He was a decent enough euro runner with board hits in several Group 3 efforts over in jolly old England before shipping over. This distance is right in his wheelhouse as he looks to be your typical euro grass runner who comes with a big late kick!

Imagining, winner of the GI Man o’ War 2 back then seemed to have nothing left in the stretch of the GI Manhattan last time coming 6th behind Real Solution (in the GI Arlington Million) Kaigun and Seek Again both big time stakes winners since. Can go early or rate but has no board hits at this distance!

War Dancer, is the 2013 GII Virginia Derby winner with a win in the GIII Louisville Hcp. back on May 24th is another multiple graded winner in this group. Last time out however, he ran a flat effort in the GIII Arlington Hcp starting 3rd and finishing 3rd! Loves the distance, but seems to do his best running stalking an early pace of late!

Amira’s Prince, who in early 2013 looked to be a real up and comer before an injury sidelined him. He reentered the turfing scene this winter with 2 stalking but flat efforts at G/P and the F/G in graded turf tests. Stalked the pace again last time in the GI Man o’War but to only a 6th finish, 9 lengths off that winner in another tired looking effort. His had some success at this distance but needs to find that early 2013 form to vie again. Stalker type here!

Perfect Timber, has had a number of near miss graded turf efforts up at Woodbine over his career and could be a factor here if the early pace isn’t too quick! Loves this distance too and is more of a closer type when on his game!

O’Prado Ole , was a 1/2 length, 2nd in the GIII Stars and Stripes at Arlington last out in his best effort yet. Son of English Channel out of an El Prado mare says L/D turfing is in his blood and with H.O.F connections of Johny V. up and Dale Romans training he could be finally ready to surprise here! He too has been stalking an early pace of late but to only modest success!
