Tonalist to take on 6 in GII Jim Dandy Stakes – Post Positions, Picks, M/L Odds, Free Past Performances

Tonalist - in this year's GIII Peter Pan Stakes winner's circle

Tonalist – in this year’s GIII Peter Pan Stakes winner’s circle

A good group of 7, 3yo’s was drawn for this year’s  $600,000, GII Jim Dandy Stakes, for 3yo’s only, going 1 1/8 mile over the historic Saratoga main this Saturday that will include the 2014 GI Belmont Stakes winner, Tonalist!

Free Past Performances,

Tonalist, at 8/5 is the m/l fav for this GII test coming off wins in both the GII Peter Pan and GI Belmont Stakes both at Belmont in his previous 2 outings and with a win here he could begin to challenge California Chrome for that 3yo male HOY honors in January! He is 2 for 2 at this distance lifetime and was up near the early pace in both his wins at Belmont earlier this year!

Wicked Strong ,winner of the GI Wood Memorial last spring at aqueduct has finished 4th twice in both the GI Kentucky Derby and GI Belmont Stakes in his last 2 outs. This one’s a deep closing type so look for him late here on Saturday!

Commanding Curve, was that surprising 2nd in that same GI Kentucky Derby 2 back where at almost 38/1 he probably blew up a blizzard of Derby exacta tickets. He didn’t fare as well in the GI Belmont Stakes last out coming 9th -12 lengths off Tonalist! He to is another deep closing type and the cut back to the 1 1/8 distance should help him improve this time!

Kid Cruz, trained by the darling of the Saratoga backside Linda Rice, comes in off 2 really very 1 1/16 mile wins in the Easy Goer and GIII Dwyer Stakes both at Belmont this spring. Clocked a very nice 1:41 flat in both efforts and was the clear winner in both races showing excellent stretch abilities, as well. Another closer type here but Linda Rice has been pointing him here ever since his ill-advised GI Preakness run – his only lose in his last 5 races! He could be ready to make a statement here!

Ulanbator , was 3rd but back 5 lengths in that same GIII Dwyer Stakes most recently and 2 back was 2nd in the GIII Matt Wynn at Churchill. He has but a maiden win on his resume but is bringing graded experience with him here. Not an early speed type but that might be his best bet here to be in the payouts somewhere!

Cousin Stephen, was 3rd in the GIII Sam F. Davis and a next out 6th in the GII Tampa Bay Derby last winter and more recently had to fight back for the win in a $45k. Parx Alw at a mile on June 16th. He does offer early speed here on Saturday so look for him to maybe lead the early vanguard here on Saturday!

Legend, was a willing 2nd to Kid Cruz, most recently in that same Easy Goer Stakes on Belmont Stakes day over “big sandy” but back 3 1/4 lengths at the line! He has hit the board in all his 2-turn lifetime outings and is a son of Tiznow. He likes to be near the early pace most times as he generally likes to stalk!

Stopchargingmaria to be solid favorite in GI Coaching Club American Oaks this Sunday – Post Positons, Picks, M/L Odds, Free Past Performances

Stopchargingmaria - (on the outside) winning today's GII Black-Eyed Susan Stakes by a neck at Pimlico

Stopchargingmaria – (on the outside) winning the GII Black-Eyed Susan Stakes by a neck at Pimlico last time out!

Multiple graded winner Stopchargingmaria, will lead a modestly sized field of 6, 3yo fillies into the $300,000 GI Coaching Club American Oaks Stakes, for 3yo fillies, going 1 1/8 mile over the Saratoga main track this Sunday!

Free Past Performances,

With Untapable, now scheduled to meet the boys in the July 27th GI Haskell, Stopchargingmaria, becomes a solid favorite to take down this GI title coming off a just in time “neck” win in the GII Black Eyed Susan Stakes last time out at Pimlico. Her 1:51 and chg winning time in that race looks sluggish but Pimlico main wasn’t the speediest surface on Preakness weekend so look for a better performance here on Sunday. This one has moved to being more of a closer type in her most recent outings so don’t look for her to be on the early lead here!

Unbridled Forever , 3rd in 3 consecutive graded starts but never really close to the winners at the line in any of them! She can be up on the early pace and rate for a late run!

America, this will be her 6 straight graded outing with only a pair of “way off the winner 3rd’s” to show for it. She does offer experience at this distance too but she too isn’t a true early speed type either.

Miss Besilu , has been mostly a turfer up until now with good successes down at the Mdn and Alw level but her forays into the graded level have been lackluster at best and has no form at this distance either! Likes to stalk well off an early pace most times so no early speed here either!

Courageous Julie , winner of a Churchill $75k 1 1/16 mile 1x alw last out by 2 1/2 lengths in a modest 1:45 and chg. She did finish 5th twice in both the GIII Honeybee and Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn this winter but has been backing up in company ever since to find the winner’s circle again. She could be the early pace in here on Sunday but a board hit seems unlikely!

Taketheodds, comes in with the obligatory Mdn and alw diplomas to her credit in her most recent starts, but is jumping way up in company and distance here with just 4 lifetime starts on her resume! Stalks the early pace most times but in this paceless field she to might become the default early speed!
