(Wise Dan) – (in the yellow cap here) fighting tooth and nail with Seek Again down the stretch of the GI Woodford Reserve at Churchill last time out!
Wise Dan, returns to action in a big field of “11” for the $250,000, GII Bernard Baruch Hcp, for 3yo and up turfers, going 1 1/16 mile over the Saratoga inner sod this Saturday!
Free Past Performances,
Wise Dan , the 3/5 M/L fav is coming back to turfing here after successfully battling off a very serious bout with a colic condition and looks to reestablish his HOY credentials with a win here on Saturday.
Likes to sit just off an early pace most times then pounce with a big time stretch finish but Note – the colic surgery may have diminished him some as we’ll only know about that in the stretch here on Saturday.
He, like Game On Dude is now 7yrs old and horses like Seek Again (seen above on the rail) are starting to push him now. So use him here, just don’t solo the “Danner” in your exotics or multi’s plays, let him show us he is still the Wise Dan we all love!
Boisterous , at 5/1, is also now 7 yrs old and was the 2013 GI Man o’ War winner but has only won a Keeneland alw tilt since. He will generally sit well off an early pace but we wonder aloud here does he still have that big kick finished left in him? He PP’s would seem indicate maybe not as his most recent graded outings have been disappointing of late!
Sayaad , at 6/1, was 5th in the GII Fourstardave here last out but just 2 1/2 lengths of that winner after being an early speed. This one loves it up front early and does own a pair of recent stakes wins, as well! Early speed probable here!
Five Iron , at 8/1, is more early speed here on Saturday and owns a pair of GIII turf wins at about this distance on his racing resume. If Wise Dan , does not come with his “a” or “b” game here then this one just might run everyone off their feet early!
Lea and Red Rifle , are MTO horses and should the heavens open up here on Saturday (not in the Saratoga Saturday forecast by the way) by all means use this pair if this race goes on to the Saratoga slop!
Paris Vegas , is an interesting 12/1 shot here even though he has no real top recent form and was 2nd here in last year’s edition. Seems to have picked up a number of minor awards over his career in turf battles like this, for the most part. Not a pace setter nor closer just seems finds a way to be in the payout mix more times than not.
Sky Blazer , 15/1, was head bobbed out of the runner- up spot last time in the GII Bowling Green at Belmont settling for 3rd but was only 3/4 of a length off that winner. Seems to be making a living out of minor awards in the stakes and lesser graded events over his career and more of a closer type, went his right, then anything else!
Optimizer , at 30/1, is getting no love here, as a former top turfer not that long ago with board hits in many of the top 2013 turf events as a staking horse. But his last 4 outings show a walk off, a stopped, and some very distance finishes too. He is still owned by Calumet, gets an Alan Garica ride under a new trainer! Is it come back time for this former top turfer?
North Star Boy , at 20/1 and Bio Pro , at 50/1 are both local NYRA color for this GII turf event with no real graded form to speak of. You might find a nugget in here for that 4th spot in your dime super here with this pair!
