Free Past Performances,
A GI worthy field of 10 top lady turfers are coming out for this 1 1/8 mile turf tussle here on opening weekend of 2014 at the Old Spa this Saturday!
Emollient , is coming off a just missed win in the GI Gamely Stakes out at Santa Anita last time out in a nice stalking leader trip only to come up a nose at the line, but did surrender the stretch lead in that race as she was caught right at the line. This one’s always in the early vanguard so look for her early here on Saturday!
Alterite , winner of the GI Garden City last year, then a just missed 2nd in last falls QEII at Keeneland and was a more than solid 1 length 3rd in the B/C FM Turf at S/A last out. She does come in here with a lot of racing rust as she has not raced since last fall. GI quality here but sit well off the early pace for the late strike!
Discreet Marq, had a wonderful 3yo season in 2013 with multiple graded wins or 2nd’s. Finished a very flat looking 4th most recently in the GI Just A Game where she had no late run. Stalks and pounces in most of her outing so look for she to be stalking the early leaders here.
Tannery, was the surprise winner of last fall’s GI E.P. Taylor up at Woodbine against some top world class company was a good 2nd in the GII New York Stakes last time out as she chased home the winner. She’s hit the board in her past 5 starts and is a dead closer!
Stephanie’s Kitten , has not been at her best in her past 2 outs with an 8th finish in the GI Jenny Wiley at Keeneland to open her 2014 season, then a somewhat better 5th in the GI Just A Game last out just 2 1/4 lengths off that winner. She needs to find that GI form again to compete with this group but may have lost a step or 2 this race could be the test! When she is on her game she comes with a big finish!
Solid Appeal, comes in off big win in the GII Nassau at Woodbine where she defended her 2013 title well. She does well at Woodbine and at the lesser graded levels as well as she just has not hung up a big one at the GI level yet. Closes or can stalk but not an early front runner!
Somali Lemonade, a multiple graded winner, but surrendered a stretch lead last time out in that same GI Just A Game having to settle for 3rd. She’s been transformed into an early speed horse in her 3 most recent outs to some good success, too! So, look for her to grabs the early lead here and play catch me if you can!
Caroline Thomas, winner of a Belmont $80k 3x turf alw last out by 2 1/2 lengths but in the past has been a decent turf runner at the graded level but has only earned the occasional minor award at the graded level. Comes late but never in time at this level!
Strathnaver, was coming hard at the end of that same GI Just A Game last out just missing the win by a shortest of noses after a big late charge down the outside. One more run like that here on Saturday might do the trick for her. So, any good price on her here could represent some really value for you in your exotics thinking!
Abaco , ran a very decent 2nd most recently in the GII Sheepshead Bay missing by 1 3/4 lengths, ran a good 3rd in that same GI Jenny Wiley 2 back and does offer a grade win on her resume as well! comes late went she does run well and is 4-2-1-1 at this distance. Again, big price here might bring her into our super thinking as well!
